Changes to IP Australia Fees as of 1st October 2020

There have been several articles circulating in relation to IP Australia increasing its fees. 

This is not as worrying as it may sound!

Most of the fee increases relate to applications or correspondence which requires additional levels of administrative consideration.  

Examples of correspondence which would require additional consideration include:  

1. where your trade mark application is sent by post (rather than electronically) – now $450 per class; 
2. where you’re not claiming standard goods and services from the pick-list, but wanting bespoke and customised items – now $400 per class; 
3. where you are importing an international trade mark into Australia through the Madrid Protocol – now $400 per class; 
4. series trade mark applications – now $550 per class; 
5. where you renew your trade mark late – now reduced from $450 to $400. 

If you are currently in a dispute with another party which is being administered by IP Australia, please note that there will also be changes to hearing costs after 1 October 2020.
